Mark Kruger is a senior fellow at CIGI, the Yicai Institute and the University of Alberta’s China Institute. Between 2020 and 2023, he was the Opinion Editor at Yicai Global. Formerly, Mark was a senior policy director in the Bank of Canada’s international department, a senior advisor to the Canadian executive director at the International Monetary Fund, and head of the economic and financial section in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. He began his career at the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission. Mark is based in Shanghai, where he writes regularly on the Chinese economy. You can find his short, data-driven insights here.
